A Caregivers’ Retreat March 15-16, 2024

SCCAC is thrilled to extend a heartfelt invitation for a special retreat tailored specifically for caregivers who provide unwavering support and love to individuals living with dementia. This FREE retreat in beautiful Beaufort, South Carolina promises to be a rejuvenating experience filled with relaxation, education, and connection with fellow caregivers.

How Sweet the Sound Concert February 21, 2024

This time we are partnering with Council on Aging centers across the state to offer programming to South Carolina residents with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

We will offer a music program featuring Christal Heyward and important advocacy information for caregivers.

July 2024 Book Club

“In the Executioner’s Shadow” is a documentary film directed by Maggie Burnette Stogner. The film, released in 2018, explores the personal and societal impact of capital punishment and the experiences of individuals who have played roles in the execution process, including executioners, victims’ family members, and exonerated former death row inmates.

Join us at Nickelodeon Theater in Columbia (1607 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201) for an in-person movie experience and panel discussion.

May 2024 Book Club

Published in 2019, How High the Moon is a historical fiction novel set in the racially charged atmosphere of the Jim Crow South. The story revolves around a young girl named Ella, who lives in the town of Alcolu, South Carolina, during the 1940s. The narrative weaves between Ella’s experiences and those of her cousin, Henry, who is falsely accused of murdering two white girls.

March 2024 Book Club

The Cross and the Lynching Tree is a powerful and thought-provoking book written by James H. Cone, a prominent theologian and scholar of black liberation theology. The book was published in 2011 and explores the intersections of Christianity, race, and violence in the United States. As many Christians observe Maundy Thursday, we invite you to join us as we explore what it means on follow the “commandment” to stop executions in South Carolina.

Ash Wednesday 2024

The fragility of life often brings grief and sorrow. Using God’s spoken word, the power of music, deep reflection, prayers, and the imposition of ashes, this 1-hour hybrid worship experience helps us acknowledge our own mortality.

World AIDS Day December 1, 2023 11am Columbia, SC

This year, the SC Christian Action Council is the official host of the state’s observation of World AIDS Day at the SC State House, and we are thrilled to partner with SC DHEC. Our focus is the intersection of HIV and human trafficking.

Join Rev. Kendal L. McBroom and Rev. Dr. Regina H. Moore for “Advocate this Advent: A 4-Week Study to Mobilize BIPOC Communities” beginning Wednesday, November 29 at Noon EST.  This virtual weekly study will be held Wednesdays at Noon EST on November 29, December 6, December 13, and December 20.
